Columbia Basin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dental Implants & Wisdom Teeth is pleased to announce its 2022 Smiles For Veterans recipient, Michael from Kennewick. Our Smiles For Veterans program provides one veteran who lives or works in the Columbia Basin and Tri-Cities region with a complimentary full-arch restoration procedure each year.
Michael, 73, is now retired and is a veteran of the United States Navy. Born in northern Idaho, Michael moved to Kennewick in 1976 and raised three children with his wife. After serving in the Navy, Michael worked for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) for more than 30 years. His dental health was pretty good for most of his life, but about 10 years ago, he had a few teeth that started to decay, break, and fall out. He tried to keep caps on, at times using super glue, but they continued to fall out, and he thinks he may have even swallowed at least one. Now, because of the state of his teeth, Michael said that his children are concerned for his health, especially because he is unable to chew and eat certain foods, like meats. In his application and at his consultation, Michael mentioned he hopes the procedure will allow him to eat more healthy foods, to smile without embarrassment, and to kiss his wife of 49 years with confidence again.
The recipient will receive a complete set of new teeth at no cost. This type of tooth replacement is called full-arch restoration, and it involves using dental implants to secure a fixed denture in one or both arches. Our experts will work closely with a restorative dentist to complete the treatment.
